'Sustainability is becoming more important due to the depletion of natural resources, environmental pollutions, and global climate change. Many major companies such as Unilever, IKEA, Apple, Walmart, and Nike endeavor to align sustainability with their overall business goals, mission, or values, and are moving forward with serious commitments to sustainability efforts, including energy conservation and efficiency, pollution prevention, resource conservation and management, recycling, waste management, sustainable building, transportation efficiency, sustainable community, and human rights.

About Sustainability Studies at NJCU

Sustainability issues are interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary, so students majoring in our Sustainability Studies B.A. program will be educated and trained to understand and address complex sustainability challenges, and to seek and develop interdisciplinary solutions, particularly focusing on urban communities.

Areas explored include:

  • Water and air pollution
  • Natural resources and energy depletion

  • Social inequality and poverty

Students will also develop skills in areas such as critical thinking, problem solving, oral and written communication, as well as collaboration.

The Sustainability Studies B.A. prepares student for careers in private, public, and non-profit sectors. Almost all public and private organizations and companies need sustainability professionals as well as sustainability departments, as it is increasingly becoming a critical part of business strategy and operations.
